Formwork experts forum in Breisach

There was an informational visit to the construction site of the Forchheim sewage treatment plant of the Breisgauer Buchtwater board, where two of the largest final settling tanks in Germany are currently being built. Around 48 million Euro have been invested in the extension there to be prepared to handle the waste water from a steadily growing population in the future. Ed. Züblin AG, the construction company carrying out this work, uses only formwork solutions from PASCHAL for this project.

In addition to the two final settling tanks, each with a diameter of 72 m, there is also a pumping station being built there with an overall formwork height of 12.50 m that was formed with LOGO.3 in two height levels.

A total of 13,500 m³ of concrete have to be formed for the extension of the Forchheim sewage treatment plant. Ed. Züblin AG uses only formwork solutions from PASCHAL for this project.

The walls of a new aeration tank measuring 84 x 40 m are also currently being built with LOGO.3 formwork from PASCHAL. Two cylindrical structures extending into the ground and secured with sheet piling could also be viewed. Funnel structures are being built here that will later form the centres of the two final settling tanks. As both of these two cylinders lie below the water table, their base plates had to be concreted with the help of divers and underwater concrete, explained site manager Ulrich Geitz from Züblin. The funnel formwork made from steel beams that is now being built in one of the cylinders was of particular interest to the formwork experts. A total of 13,500 m³ of concrete have to be formed for the facility, which is planned to start operation in 2019. By the time the structural work has been completed, a large part of the PASCHAL formwork product range, such as LOGO.3, PASCHAL Modular, the circular Trapezoidal girder formwork, and a wide variety of occupational and safety devices will have been used at the construction site.

The Franz Keller vineyard in Oberbergen gave the formwork experts a good example of outstanding exposed concrete qualities with PASCHAL formwork.

To see how concrete can be ideal for architectural projects, the forum participants were able to admire the Franz Keller vineyard in Oberbergen following the tour. With its modern design featuring exposed concrete, the terraced building fits perfectly into the landscape of the "Kaiserstuhl" mountain range. Inside the building itself, there is a successful interplay between the exposed concrete, timber, and lighting. All of the walls of the building were formed using LOGO.3 and they provide a perfect example for the high quality of the exposed concrete that can be obtained using this formwork in its standard finish without any additives. The columns with a mushroom head that were concreted with a specialised formwork from PASCHAL give the building a special effect.

The modern vineyard hence provided the perfect ambience for the formwork experts to round off a successful day with a great deal of discussion about formwork along with excellent wine and good food.
